About Dav-Tec

We’re a VW Transporter specialist workshop in Chesterfield. Audio, suspension, security, remaps and OEM+ retrofits — on T5, T5.1, T6, T6.1 and T7 vans, and very little else.

That narrowness is deliberate. We know where the wiring runs on a T6.1, which retrofits the electro-mechanical steering rack will accept and which it won’t, and why a T5.1 takes interior parts a T5 never will. That kind of knowledge only comes from working on the same platform every day.

How Dav-Tec started

Chris Davidson has been modifying cars and vans since he was about thirteen. “I’ve never owned anything in stock format,” is how he puts it. What began as jobs on his own Caddy, then favours for friends, turned into something else entirely when their friends started asking too.

Dav-Tec became a business in 2020. For the next four years Chris ran it alongside a full-time job as an electrical and automation engineer — finishing a night shift at 6am and going straight to the workshop to start on a customer’s van, seven days a week. In March 2024 he went full-time on Dav-Tec.

That engineering background is not incidental. Auto electrics, coding and retrofit work are where most of this trade goes wrong, and it is the part Chris was already trained for.

On the cover of VWt

In Spring 2025, Chris’s own T6.1 demonstrator took the front cover and lead feature of VWt, the UK’s only VW Transporter magazine, under the headline Sound Investment (issue 156).

The audio system in that van is the one we sell as our Ultimate Audio Package, so it isn’t a show pony — it’s the specification we’d build for a customer. As the feature put it, the difficult part isn’t filling a van with speakers; it’s achieving high-end sound in a vehicle that still has to be versatile, usable and spacious.

Chris also took the van to the VolksWorld Show at Ardingly that March.

What we’re accredited for

Authorised Powerflex dealer. We supply and fit the full Powerflex range, and they’re the bushes we reach for by default on any suspension job.

Meta Trak approved installer. This matters more than it sounds. Insurers who specify an S5 tracker generally require it to be fitted by an approved installer and will ask to see the certificate. It also means the system is installed to Meta Trak’s standard and registered correctly with the control centre first time.

SoLow specialist. Air ride and coilovers, installed, set up, leak-tested and handed over properly.

We also work with Audison, Hertz, Helix, Audiotec Fischer, Morel, Gladen, Zapco, Alpine, Focal, JL Audio, MATCH, Pioneer, Dodo and FineVu.

What we’re known for

Virtual Cockpit and Discover Media retrofits are a big part of what we do — Chris worked the first one out himself, over a few weeks between customer jobs, and has since fitted them for a lot of owners. Alongside that: full active audio builds with DSP tuning, sound deadening, air ride and coilovers, custom steering wheels, cruise control and reversing camera retrofits, and insurance-approved security.

How we work

Most jobs start with a registration and a conversation. Transporter parts are not always interchangeable between generations — the dash, headlights and steering column differ most — so we’d rather confirm what fits your van before you order than deal with a return.

We do the work in-house at our own unit. Wiring follows factory routing, retrofits are coded so they behave as though the van left Wolfsburg that way, and you get the van back with everything tested.

What our customers say

We hold a 4.9-star rating from 38 Google reviews.

Chris has also been a member of the T6 Forum since long before Dav-Tec was a business, and there’s a review thread there that owners started themselves in 2021 and have kept adding to ever since — thirteen pages of it, still going in December 2025. We don’t moderate it and we can’t take anything down, which is rather the point. If you want an unfiltered account of what it’s like to have work done here, read that rather than this page.

A lot of it comes back to the same thing: taking the time to explain what’s actually being done, and why. One owner came to us after his insurer mandated an S5 tracker — he researched it himself and, in his words, “Dav-Tec kept coming up”.
